Community service is a very important function of the WVQG - and there are many opportunities . Our major projects include:
Walker - wheel chair bags for nursing homes in Orange county as well as other areas in NY, NJ and PA - the states and counties which our guild membership represent.
Soft caps for cancer patients , especially those going through chemotherapy - the soft quilted caps are always appreciated. (American Cancer Society)
Quilts of all sizes for Project Linus, the organization who's mission is to provide "love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need.
Quilted Christmas stockings for all foster children in Orange County.
Each year, the Warwick Valley Quilters’ Guild (WVQG) grants scholarship awards to deserving applicants - teachers, students, and non-profit groups - who are involved in sewing, quilting and other needle arts. In 2008, WVQG awarded a total of $1600.00 to a diverse group of applicants, including local teachers who conduct sewing programs in their schools, students who are pursuing higher education in a sewing-related field, and non-profit groups who are helping others in our community. This year’s recipients include:
Teachers at Washingtonville and Monroe-Woodbury Middle Schools, to assist in purchasing supplies for students to use in making quilts, pillows and other items for cancer and cardiac patients.
Students from the following area schools:
Warwick Valley HS
